Yesterday CBS began simulcasting WBBM Newsradio on the FM dial (at 105.9). The station had been an AM only station for the past 43 years (on 780). CBS Radio Chicago SVP and Market Manager Rod Zimmerman, along with Co-Anchors Felicia Middlebrooks and Pat Cassidy were joined by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to help with the switchover, followed by an in-studio visit with Governor Quinn and a WBBM NEWSRADIO newsroom celebration! Here?s what they had to say:
Emanuel said "I think it?s actually a new era for the city. In the sense of not only having you on AM but on FM. Having an informed citizenry is essential. You?re serious at the craft of being journalists; covering the news and keeping the public informed about what the choices are and what we face are as a city. Together."
Governor Pat Quinn said "The news is really important in a democracy. It?s important that we have great coverage of politics, and current events. Having the FM opportunity as well as the 78 that everybody knows is real good."
