WAAF Boston afternoon host Mistress Carrie has always been a big supporter of the troops. She's even been to Iraq and Afghanistan as an embedded reporter. On Saturday, she will be doing something no other civilian has ever been allowed to do, participate in the Tough Ruck. The Tough Ruck will consist of approximately 1000 soldiers from over 30 states, making up over 20 teams, in a 26 mile hike with a full ruck sack, weighing at least 40 pounds.
The event is to benefit Military Friends Foundation. Mistress Carrie is part of a fundraising team that includes the 1-182 Infantry, whom she was embedded with in Afghanistan. She says, "After being embedded with members of the 182 in Afghanistan, and visiting them as they secured Boston after the marathon bombings, I'm honored to be a member of the team, especially on April 19th , because the 182 are one of only a few units in the military that carry battle streamers from Lexington, Concord, and Boston. It's going to be a very special day, and I just hope to keep up with them!"
Each Tough Rucker is carrying the Ruck of a military member or members that is no longer here to carry it themselves. Ruckers dedicate their ruck, and wear a yellow ribbon with the name of the person that they are rucking in honor of. Mistress Carrie is rucking in memory four people, including of PFC Jonathan Roberge who lived in her hometown of Leominster.
