NAB Objects to New Senate Bill

5-12-14

If this new Bill becomes law, it has the potential to hurt your radio station. It's a fine line radio has to walk with ASCAP. The industry has a good working relationship with the company that represents so many composers and musicians stations air every day. But it's clear this is an issue the two sides do not agree on and the Senators who were entertained in Nashville Monday have not signed onto the NAB's Local Radio Freedom Act. In response to the full-court press ASCAP is putting on Washington to pass new royalty legislation. The NAB followed up the announced Senate legislation with this statement...

"NAB respectfully opposes this legislation, which could impose new costs on broadcasters that jeopardize the future of our free locally-focused service. While this legislation raises important issues about the changes confronting the songwriter community, NAB objects to changes in law that would deal with the financial imbalance between songwriters and artists by subjecting free broadcast radio stations to new fees."
