The Anchorage Daily News interviews several local talkers in market 170, some who make about $1,200 per month, and are hoping for an increase in the minimum wage. Host Mike Porcaro tells the paper, "Everbody's gotta eat. I left radio because I was starting a family. And now my family's all grown, I can afford to go back into radio." They are also using their shows to promote their second jobs which, for some, involve political causes they are passionate about. KFQD-AM morning show host Ethan Berkowitz also works for a firm that spends time trying to legalize marijuana. His co-host, Bernadette Wilson, works for the group on the opposite side of the marijuana initiative. The job mixing has also lead to FCC complaints.
