Updated: GAP Moving Toward Merger With Townsquare

FCC paperwork has been filed to transfer GAP Broadcasting stations to Townsquare Media, and Townsquare CEO Steven Price tells Radio Ink that, though there is no definitive merger agreement as yet, the process is "far enough along that we were able to file with the FCC." He also confirmed that GAP President George Laughlin and GAP West President Erik Hellum will have senior roles with the merged company.

Commenting in the FCC's quadrennial ownership rules review, Clear Channel Communications is thinking on a large scale: After saying that any limitation on radio ownership is no longer justified, the company suggests a two-tiered structure that would allow companies to own up to 12 stations in large markets, and an end to the AM and FM subcaps.

Berkery Noyes reports on media-industry mergers and acquisitions in the first half of the year, noting that Internet media led in volume, with 104 transactions. The biggest deal: Warburg Pincus and Silver Lake Partners' pending purchase of Interactive Data Corp. for $3.25 billion.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs held a press conference Friday to address issues with the iPhone 4 antenna and reception. He denied any "antennagate," the Wall Street Journal reports, but Jobs said iPhone 4 buyers will receive a free "bumper" that should help solve the problem with the wraparound antenna.
