Clear Channel Donates Two More To MMTC

Clear Channel Radio will donate two more radio stations -- KFNX/Minneapolis and WTOC/Sussex, NJ -- to the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council for the MMTC-Clear Channel Ownership Diversity Initiatives, designed to expand ownership and training for minorities, women, and other underserved groups. Additionally, two of the four stations Clare Channel donated earlier to MMTC are now set to be relaunched with new minority operators.

Arbitron Rolls Out In-Person Recruiting

Targeted in-person recruiting has begun in high-density black and Hispanic areas in Dade County, Dallas, and the Brooklyn and Bronx boroughs of New York, Arbitron's Beth Webb said on the company's PPM client update Tuesday. The recruiting approach will be assessed over three months and then rolled out further.

Emmis Wins Appeal Of Slager License Loss

Emmis Communications has won its appeal of the loss of its license for Slager Radio in Hungary. Emmis and Danubius Radio were denied license renewals in 2009 and the licenses were handed over to politically connected groups in a decision that was widely criticized.

Media Monitors: Geico Leads In Radio Spots

Geico remained the top radio advertiser for the week of July 12-18, Media Monitors reports, with 51,316 spots on the air. Home Depot was second, followed by McDonald's.

FCC: Millions Have No Access To Broadband

The FCC's latest Broadband Deployment Report found that between 14 million and 24 million Americans have no access to broadband, and "the immediate prospect for deployment to them are weak." The agency said the report underscores the need for reform of the Universal Service Fund and "innovative approaches to unleashing new spectrum."

Former Host Sues Newspapers, Alleging Defamation

Former radio host and financial adviser Pat Kiley is suing the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press, and three reporters for defamation, saying they improperly linked him to a money manager who pleaded guilty to fraud early this year.
