Smulyan Sues Alden Global Capital

Smulyan Sues Alden Global Capital

JS Acquisition -- formed by Emmis Chairman/CEO Jeff Smulyan in his recently failed bid to take the company private -- has filed suit against Alden Global Capital, which earlier this month caused the deal to fall through when it withdrew its financial support. The complaint says JSA relied on Alden's promise to finance the transaction and that "justice and equity requires that Alden reimburse JSA" for its fees and expenses.

BIA/Kelsey: Local Media Stronger Than Expected

BIA/Kelsey told attendees of its DMS '10 conference that local advertising is growing slightly faster in 2010 compared with earlier estimates and is expected to reach $133.3 billion by the end of the year. That would be a 2.1% jump over 2009 -- and represent a turnaround from the 0.95% decline originally forecast by BIA/Kelsey.
