Friends of mvyradio, which provides the online service for WMVY, says it will purchase 88.7 FM from Vineyard Public Radio. Friends of mvyradio board member DiAnn Ray said, ?When the listening community stepped up to save WMVY, we realized how important the station was to all of us. We also recognized that returning WMVY to the FM band was critical, and we've been working to restore the FM signal for close to a year. We will again have to call on our community of supporters, both on the Vineyard and beyond, to help fund this important acquisition.?
WMVY/mvyradio will continue to be heard online at mvyradio.com, on 96.5 FM in Newport, RI and on Rhode Island Public Radio?s HD2 FM 102.7 FM.
Friends of mvyradio is now launching a major initiative to establish a sustainable future for WMVY.
According to WMVY Program Director P.J. Finn, ?Our internet streaming reaches over 30,000 unique listeners every month. With the re-establishment of a local signal, combined with our internet growth and enthusiastic support of our listeners, WMVY will be able to deliver its unique programming to a broader audience, and become an even greater resource for our community.?
Going forward as a non-commercial, non-profit public radio station, WMVY/mvyradio now depends completely on listener support and underwriting. Friends of mvyradio is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, committed to securing philanthropic and underwriting support for WMVY/mvyradio to preserve its unique brand and Island connection.

Excellent news. With ties to both WBUR and WMVY, the recent changes were bitter sweet. Once upon a time, Album Radio 92-7 stepped up to serve it's community in the true meaning of LOCAL. Through all the transitions, it's imperative that The Vineyard has an FM broadcast facility, on and ready with caring broadcasters 24 / 7. Love the weather & Steamship Authority Sailing Updates. Thank you, DiAnn! www.broadcastideas.com.
