Upcoming War Between Cumulus and Clear Channel

As Cumulus and Clear Channel work together on iHeartRadio and SweetJack they are also getting ready to do battle in Talk Radio. In one week, Cumulus is launching Mike Huckabee in the sacred 12P-3P time period, pitting him head-to-head with Rush Limbaugh, who has dominated those three hours for nearly 25 years. Huckabee, a Conservative Republican, plans a more friendly show. Huckabee and Cumulus executives, like John Dickey, believe listeners want an alternative to Rush. The New York Times takes a fresh look at the brewing battle, including quotes from Clear Channel's John Hogan.

Competition is good for business. This is good for the American listener. Too bad the only alternative to much of the conservative babble is found on the public radio stations.

Non-listeners want an alternative to Rush Limbaugh as well. That is because we are forced to deal with the fallout of Rush Limbaugh's misinformation and propaganda, in the political realm and in our daily lives. The man has no credibility - yet having a program on 600 radio stations allows him to cynically and routinely get away with "big lies" that many believe. And yes, i know this because i have become motivated to "take one for the public", i've listened to his program for 4 weeks straight.
