Baker: FCC Has No Authority To Act On Net Neutrality

FCC Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker told the Practising Law Institute's 28th annual Institute on Telecommunications Policy & Regulation in DC this week that the FCC's plans to adopt "net neutrality" regulations this week will have the commission action against the will of the courts and Congress, and expressed concern that the FCC is becoming "increasingly unmoored from our statutory authority." Baker also said the net neutrality plan proposed by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is "the wrong policy to drive more investment, jobs, and opportunity into our Internet economy."

Rep. Doug Lamborn has written to the Government Accounting Office requesting an independent audit of NPR and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. He cited a need to clarify "complicated revenue streams."

New Northwest Broadcasters CEO Trila Bumstead's Ohana Media Group is seeking to purchase nine NNB stations -- five in Astoria, OR, and four in Anchorage -- the Daily Astorian reports. NNB went into voluntary receivership in May.
