Copps Wants 'Public Value Test' For Broadcasters

CC Commissioner Michael Copps is proposing a "public value test" for radio and TV stations that would replace the current licensing process. In a speech at the Columbia University School of Journalism, he said that test would include a "meaningful commitment" to news and public affairs programming.

Study: Traditional Media Won't See Benefits Of Retail Marketing

A new report from Borrell & Associates predicts that retailers will be spending nearly $300 billion on marketing by 2015, but "traditional media companies won't be the big beneficiaries." Indeed, the researcher believes advertising's share of retail marketing spending will continue to slide; its share fell 39 percent in 2008, 27 percent this year, and is projected to fall 33 percent in 2015.
