Nielsen Ending U.S. Radio Ratings

Nielsen Ending U.S. Radio Ratings

The Nielsen Co. announces that it is leaving the radio ratings business in the United States, as of fall 2010. Back data and limited access to Radio Advisor software will continue to be available to clients, Nielsen said. The company will continue its international radio ratings.

With a rallying cry of "Stop making us jump through hoops!" supporters of the Local Community Radio Act brought their hula hoops to NAB headquarters Monday to ask NAB to drop its objections to the legislation, now before the Senate. The bill would allow potentially thousands of new LPFMs on the air; the NAB still would like clarification that full-power FMs will be protected.

Patent Suit Against Apple, Google, Others Tossed

A patent-infringement lawsuit filed against Apple, Google, AOL, Facebook, eBay, Netflix, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Yahoo, and Google-owned YouTube by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has been thrown out as insufficiently specific, the Wall Street Journal reports. A spokesman for Allen called the dismissal a "procedural issue" and said the suit will continue.
