FCC Unveils Low Power FM Channel Finder Tool

4-13-2012

The Media Bureau has announced that its updated Low Power FM (LPFM) Channel Finder search tool is now available at http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/low-power-fm-lpfm-channel-finder. Users enter NAD 27 latitude and longitude coordinates of a potential transmitter site into the tool. Surveyors are often retained by applicants to help them determine precise coordinates.

The tool allows potential applicants with the means to tentatively identify FM broadcast channels available in their area. The viability of search results are contingent on such factors as terrain and interference from other stations, even those some distance away. Other issues that can limit radio station transmitter site options, such as zoning laws and environmental considerations, also need to be taken into account.

For more information about the LPFM Channel Finder search tool, contact James Bradshaw or Jorden Brinn, Audio Division, Media Bureau, at (202) 418-2700.
