Nielsen says radio's total monthly reach is now 258.7 million, up from 257.4 million just a year ago. African American and Hispanic listeners are also growing in numbers. The African American monthly listening totals grew from 32.7 million to 33 million in the past 12 months and the Hispanic audience is up to 42.5 million from 42 million. The traditional TV numbers are down overall, dropping from 284 million in 2013 to 282.7 million this year. The big gainers were wastching time-shifted TV (167 million to 173.3 million), using an app on a smartphone (139 million to 163 million) and watching video on a smartphone (101 million to 126 million).
