One way to get around the somewhat hampered AM signal is by adding an FM translator. That's what many stations are doing and that's what Sunrise Broadcasting's WMFD in Wilmington has done, adding 95.9 FM. 630AM Radio has been an ESPN affiliate for over 14 years. Sunrise Market Manager Brian Schimmel says, ?Ninety-two percent of the market listens to FM radio weekly, while roughly one-third of radio listeners visit the AM band. Expanding to FM will introduce the station to hundreds of thousands of new potential listeners?
The 95.9 frequency is owned by Sea-Comm Media of Boca Raton, Florida. WMFD-AM is now heard on 95.9FM through a re-transmission consent agreement between Sunrise Broadcasting and Sea-Comm Media.
