NAB Radio Board Backs Royalties Terms

The NAB Radio Board has voted to present the MusicFirst Coalition, which represents record labels, with a legislative "term sheet" designed to settle the long-running battle over performance royalties. Royalties would be set at between .25 percent and 1 percent of station net revenues, with the specifics based on the availability of radio-capable mobile phones. The Radio Board's vote must be ratified by the NAB Joint Board, which is chaired by Commonwealth Broadcasting CEO Steve Newberry.

FCC Issues $10,000 NAL To Suspected Pirate

The FCC's Enforcement Bureau sends a $10,000 notice of apparent liability to Vicot Chery over an unlicensed station in Spring Valley, NY. Chery -- who, according to the NAL, showed agents around the station when they traced its signal to his business -- is saying a friend operated the pirate FM and he had no knowledge of it.
