NAB Joint Board Ratifies Radio Board Vote On Royalty Terms

The NAB Joint Board in its meeting today ratified the actions of the Radio Board, including a vote to present a legislative "term sheet" to the MusicFirst Coalition in an attempt to settle the issue of performance royalties. Those terms include a performance royalty that would, depending on other factors, be up to 1 percent of revenues.

NAB Disputes MusicFirst's 'False' Statement

MusicFirst responded to Monday's announcement that the NAB Radio Board plans to submit terms to settle performance royalties with a statement saying it's "disappointed" that the board didn't vote on a proposal agreed to in July. NAB President/CEO Gordon Smith calls that statement "demonstrably false," saying there was no firm agreement.

Arbitron Revenue Rises, Profit Dips In Q3

Arbitron reports that it brought in revenue of $99.5 million in the third quarter, up 1.4 percent from the same period in 2009, with the gain due to PPM commercialization in 10 new markets, offset in part by customers who reduced service or didn't renew. The company's net income in the quarter was $11.3 million (42 cents per diluted share), down from $13.7 million (51 cents) a year ago.

Citadel File Fine Reduced

The FCC's Media Bureau has issued an $8,000 forfeiture order to Citadel Broadcasting over public file problems at two stations in Baton Rouge, reducing that from $18,000 after Citadel pointed out that it wasn't yet the stations' licensee when some issues/programs lists were left out of the public inspection files.
