New Arbitron Measurement System Called "Project Leapfrog" to be Discussed Today.

The Radio Advisory Council and Arbitron will be holding a conference call today at 3PM to regarding "a variety of important topics" discussed last week at the Council's meetings with the measurement service in Maryland. One of the issues that was discussed last week is "project leapfrog". Sounds almost like a government code name doesn't it? The council statement says "project leapfrog" is a new experimental measurement approach that features a week-long, web/mobile based survey as the primary means of data collection.

We have another pirate in the FCC's net. This one in California. Gabriel Garcia lives in San Jose and the commission says he was operating illegally on three different dial positions. The FCC has no sense of humor for these sorts of things and has handed down a $25,000 fine to Garcia.

What Should Lew Do With Citadel? 

It's tempting to send a message to Lew Dickey asking him to take advantage of this opportunity and return the new company to radio's days of wine and roses, but that's a dream that cannot come true. We're not living in the 1980s anymore. Though we know deep in our souls that radio had more personality, more localism, more personal involvement in those days, the reality is that these giant operations can't be run that way and get the margins necessary to service their debt and make a profit for investors.

This is the earnings call that was delayed once the Citacel announcement was made to make sure all the i's were dotted and t's crossed. So today Lew Dickey and company will announce results for the 4th quarter of 2010 and full year results. These calls are listen only to start and usually end with questions from the assembled media and analysts. For sure, questions about the Citadel announcement will be part of the Q&A session.

Cummings Gets Another One Year Deal With Emmis

Emmis has entered into a new one-year employment agreement with Rick Cummings as President of Emmis Radio Programming. Cummings will make $455,000 over the next year and his annual incentive compensation target is 60% of his base salary. Cumming also gets an allowance for a car and insurance.

New York DJ Danny Stiles Passes at Age 87.

Stiles who was on the air for over 60 years died of a respiratory ailment. According to the WNYC website Stiles hosted the "Danny Stiles' Music Museum", and was known as the "Vicar of Vintage" playing records from the 1920s-1950s and occasionally beyond every Saturday night.

Ag Broadcaster Derry Brownfield Dies at 79.

The Missouri-based agricultural broadcaster and radio talk show died Saturday at his residence in Centertown. Brownfield was the host of his own radio talk show titled "The Common Sense Coalition" and a co-founder of the Brownfield Network, an agricultural news service for radio stations in several states. A post on Brownfield's Facebook page says this was a total shock to the family

Reckamp Promoted to Director of AM Programming for American General Media

Brett Reckamp has been promoted by American General Media to Director of AM Programming in Bakersfield, CA. Reckamp joined Kern Radio, News Talk 1180 in April of 2010. He is currently overseeing all aspects of programming on the 50,000 watt heritage flagship for AGM. Reckamp also serves as News Director and Imaging Director at KERN. Reckamp has won 7 Idaho State Broadcasting Awards for news, sports and production.

Talk Radio Network-FMs and Dial-Globals Erich Mancow Muller visited with Simon Cowell, host of the new FOX show, X-Factor. On The Mancow Experience, Cowell said, Mancow is more interesting, and more important than him, which is why he was not chosen to co-host American Idol. The Mancow Experience features entertainment news and guests, from TV, music, and movies.
