More Great Ammo for GM's, SM's and AE's

The latest Orpheus Media Research report is out and contrary to what people at the musicFIRST coalition would have you believe radio is still the "greatest single influence of their music listening". 82% of those surveyed said radio was the greatest influence in their lives when it comes to listening to music. Another 57% said they "most often" relied on radio or word of mouth to learn about new music.

Arbitron and Edison conduct an annual study called "Infinite Dial". The two companies have been conducting similar studies together for 19 years now and the study to be released on April 5th will give many kudos to Facebook. The study revealed that 51% of Americans 12 and over have a Facebook account.

Garber Moves to Katz After 13 Years With SCBA

She's outspoken and passionate and she's been the leader of the Southern California Broadcasters Association for 13 years. Mary Beth Garber is headed to Katz Radio to work for Mark Gray (see next story). Gray wants to be able to tell Radio's positive story to as many advertisers as possible He picked a darn good person to help him. Garber will argue with anyone and everyone who challenges radio and its ability to succeed for clients.

He said radio was not promoting itself enough. He said Katz would improve upon that shortfall. He said new things will be coming. Katz Radio Group President Mark Gray is keeping his word. He's added a very well known name to his team. Mary Beth Garber is constantly shouting from the mountain tops about radio and how great it is. And, now she's given a national bullhorn to continue her plight. Garber's been the head of the Southern California Broadcasters Association for 13 years.

Pandora Crushes Competition in Online Listening.

Ando released its monthly Internet audio Ranker for January. Pandora dwarfed the competition in January with the closest being CBS then Clear Channel in 3rd. The Ranker is a listing of the top-performing Internet audio stations and networks measured by the Webcast Metrics audience measurement platform.

Behind The Scenes of the Cumulus Run at Citadel

Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey is on the cover of the April 4th issue of Radio Ink magazine. It's our annual NAB issue which also features 16 pages devoted to Tech Ink. Tech Ink is written by industry vet Judith Gross. Dickey gives Radio Ink all the details about his run at Citadel that eventually ended in his win column. He also discusses his play for the ABC radio stations which, at the time, did not go so well. ABC eventually winds up as part of Citadel. In the end Dickey and the Cumulus team get ABC and Citadel for less than the price Citadel paid for ABC. It's an interesting look at the radio business at the highest level and we'll tell you all about it in our April 4th issue.

KDWN (Las Vegas) Co-host Scotty O'Neil Dies During Remote.

Attempts to revive O'Neil were unsuccessful. He was 69. Before moving to Las Vegas, O'Neil had a long and career in radio in Los Angeles and studied broadcast journalism at UCLA. In Vegas he became a popular sidekick for the "Dennis Bono Show"

Heartland Promotes Williams to Station Manager

Heartland operates two stations in Zolfo Springs Florida. Williams will add her Station Manager responsibilities on to her routine as Sales Manager. Station owners Hal & Jan Kneller state "Casey has really proven herself over the last two years of the recession. It was Casey"s ability to keep focused on the big picture that kept our boat afloat." Jan Kneller added "She turned our competitive sales staff into a team, which has amazed us."

Neil Boortz to be "Humiliated" Today and Tomorrow

Boortz will be in Naples, Florida golfing at the 12th Annual Mike Ditka/Jim Hart Celebrity Golf Invitational to benefit the Foundation for the Immokalee Child Care Center. Boortz said "these are great folks playing for an excellent cause and I'm honored to be a part of it. Let's face it though, I'm playing with a bunch of former athletes and some golf pros so it's guaranteed to be humiliating."�

Hung Jury in Case Against Former WRKO/Hot-97 Radio Host

The trial of a Edward Maurice Hopkins ended in a hung jury yesterday. Hopkins is a former radio host from Boston and New York. Hopkins called himself the "Crossover Negro" on the air. He worked in New York from 2000 to 2005 on Hot 97.1 FM. He later worked at WRKO-AM in Boston.He was charged with sexually abusing two 11-year-old girls and raping one of them . The judge declared the case a mistrial. The jury deliberated for two days.

FOX Launches Saturday Program With Rob Dibble and Kirk Morrison

Fox is cross breeding sports here with Dibble, a former MLB pitcher, and Morrison, an NFL linebacker. Morrison may have more time on his hands for this type of work with the NFL headed for a possible lockout season. The program begins this Saturday, March 26.
