Dickey to Citadel: "We're A Team"

$50 million in synergies. Proprietary software to help corporate operations run smoother. Plans for a "national platform". Those public statements most certainly have Citadel employees walking around the copy machine wondering if their days are numbered when the Dickey family motor home rolls through town. For some, like employees in Dallas, they've been through this before, having been part of ABC that Farid and company purchased just a few years ago. (Citadel acquired the ABC Radio Network and radio stations from Walt Disney in 2007 for $2 Billion). Cumulus is hoping to have all of Citadel's 225 stations by Q3 of this year at a price of $2.4 billion.

NAB Lashes Out at White House.

A white paper out of the White House has the NAB up in arms over performance fees for radio. The 17 page paper is entitled the "Administrations' White Paper on Intellectual Property Enforcement Legislative Recommendations." What has the NAB hot and bothered is one specific paragraph and this recommendation: "The Administration recommends that Congress create a right of public performance for sound recordings transmitted by over-the-air broadcast stations."

Saga Reports Q4 Net Revenue Jumped 7.4% Over 2009. Net Revenue for 2010 up 5.8%

Saga checked in with numbers for its 61 FM and 30 AM stations in 26 markets. The company also has 3 state radio networks, 2 farm networks, 5 TV stations and 4 low-power TV stations. It reported a 10% increase in free cash flow for the year. Net operating revenue for 2010 increased 5.8% over 2009 to $127.8 million.

Hubbard Promotes Bestler and Seeman.

Bestler moves from the VP/GM chair at KS95/KSTP-FM and WIXK-AM Minneapolis-St. Paul. Bestler is a 22 year veteran of radio, having worked in finance, sales management and station management for CBS, Cox and Hubbard Radio. Hubbard moves Dan Seeman to VP/Market Manager for Minneapolis-St. Paul. Seeman currently oversees myTalk 107.1/KTMY-FM, 1500 ESPN/KSTP-AM and the Hubbard Radio Network. KS95/KSTP-FM and WIXK-AM will be added to his duties.

Entercom Brings in Bennet Zier.

Zier previously served in a variety of roles in the radio industry, including CEO of Air America, CEO of Red Zebra Broadcasting, Executive Vice President of Clear Channel's combined businesses in the Washington / Baltimore Trading Area, VP/GM of CBS radio in Boston and various positions with CBS radio in NY including VP of Sales. Zier replaces Jeff Brown who recently transferred to Entercom's stations in Portland.

Bill Bungeroth Back in the Saddle With Cumulus.

Bungeroth co-founded the Cumulus radio group, and was named initial President and CEO. Upon the introduction of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, Bungeroth championed Cumulus' continued growth and led the team in taking the company public. He's the new market manager for the Cumulus cluster on San Francisco. Bungeroth assumes his new post immediately, overseeing San Francisco brands, KNBR, 107.7 The Bone (KSAN), KTCT and KFOG.

Emmis Signs Multi-Year Deal With Metro Traffic

Metro Traffic will provide Emmis with traffic and information services to four stations in Indianapolis (WFNI-AM, WIBC-FM, WLHK-FM and WYXB-FM). The agreement also includes the integration of Sigalert, Metro Traffic's online traffic service.

Whetstine Joins Media Management Group as Senior VP For Affiliate Sales.

"Craig is a perfect fit for us," says MMG's President and CEO Jeff Schwartz. "He is one of the top affiliate people in the business and a great addition to the company." His responsibilities will include Doug Stephan's Good Day, AARP Radio and Both Sides Now with Arianna Huffington and Mary Matalin.

KRLA-AM Talker Planning Run for Los Angeles Mayor

The L.A. Times is reporting Kevin James plans to announce his candidacy today on the steps of City Hall. Campaign spokesman John Thomas tells the paper that the 47 year old James wants to make Los Angeles more business-friendly and believes that we desperately need new leadership in L.A. James already has working relationships with union leaders, business officials and nonprofit groups, Thomas said. James has been on the air since 2003.
