Mediaguide: Big Gains In Auto Spots

Mediaguide's AdMonitor report for the week of June 8-14 shows significant growth in auto advertising, with Toyota leading the way, running 4,676 ads -- up from 85 in the same period last year. Looking at the month of May, theme parks and beer showed gains as summer approaches.

Ed McLaughlin To Receive Radio Ink Lifetime Leadership Award

Premiere Radio Networks' Glenn Beck Program picks up its 400th affiliate, signing up Salem's KRLA/Los Angeles. The show will air live from 6-9 a.m., starting July 6.

Illinois Funds MBC Expansion

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has announced a $6 million grant to help complete the Museum of Broadcast Communications. The grant was included in the $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now job-creation fund, and the money has now come through.

SNL Kagan Projects 6.4% Growth For Radio In '10

SNL Kagan has updated its forecasts for radio and TV advertising and is projecting a 6.4 percent rise in radio ad revenue in 2010, to $17.1 billion. That would be the best year-over-year increase since 2003.

Broadcasters Reiterate Support For HD Power-Up

In reply comments filed with the FCC, a group of broadcasters and others that includes CBS Radio, Clear Channel, Cox Radio, Emmis, Entercom, and Greater Media, say there was an "active and wide-ranging" debate on the appropriate power levels and that the FCC's Media Bureau had sufficient authority to allow the power increase.

The FCC's Enforcement Bureau issues a $4,500 forfeiture order to Mark Nierman and Kadaku Productions for operating a pirate station at 99.9 FM in Brooklyn, NY.

NPR, Other Pubcasters Team On Digital Content Platform

NPR, American Public Media, Public Radio International, the Public Radio Exchange, and PBS have teamed up to create a shared digital distribution network that, the group says, "will allow public broadcasters and Web producers to combine, create, share, and distribute their news and cultural content." NPR will administer a $1 million CPB grant during the planning stage.

Livio Radio closes on a new round of funding from venture capital firm Beringea. Livio is the developer of the Livio Radio Internet radio device and Livio Car Internet Radio iPhone app, and it will use the funding for, among other things, launching new products.
