The broadcast revenue increase amounted to $400,000 for the fourth quarter of 2013 (Salem owns 95 stations and a network). Including the Salem publishing and Internet businesses Salem revenue increased 3.5%. Salem CEO Ed Atsinger says when you back out political from both 2012 ($2.4 million) and 2013 ($200,000) the company would have seen a revenue increase of 7.6%. He wanted to make the point that his core business was strong. "We're optimistic that 2014 looks good for us." For 2013 Salem broadcast revenue was flat at around $183 million.
