Bressler also compared Nielsen's PPM technology to Triton's measurement technology, which is important now that so much audio listening is moving online, and Nielsen edges closer to having a measurement system for radio that includes both online and over-the-air. Of course Pandora relies quite a bit on Triton for measurement and most listening done on iHeartRadio, according to the Infinite Dial study, is to local radio stations, which will be measured by Nielsen. Bressler has not been shy about challenging Pandora's listening numbers.
Bressler compared the PPM technology used by radio to the Triton technology and he's not impressed with the ladder. About Triton, Bressler said, "As long as the device is on, whether you are in the room or not, that counts. That would be counted as listening even though it's not listening. The more that comes out about a gold standard for measurement, the better its going to be."
