It's just pure speculation at this point exactly where they're going with audio, but the connected-home company acquired by Google late last year is dipping its toe into the audio space. Nest has posted an opening for a "highly technical Head of Audio to lead the development of Nest Audio across hardware and software, present and future." Don't rule out the connected car in this equation for Nest; the company announced integration with the Connected Car Adapter in January.
