The Chicago Tribune is reporting that a former College of DuPage radio engineer has been charged with stealing from the campus radio station. John Valenta was charged Thursday with felony theft of stealing $100,000 to $500,000 while working at WDCB 90.9-FM. It's alleged that he submitted phony invoices for materials the school never received, according to court records.
The allegations state that Valenta billed the community college for more than $400,000, including at least $90,000 for radio transmitter parts that, according to school records, were never installed. Now retired,Valenta currently receives about $51,000 a year from the state pension system.
