Radio Ink has announced that legendary recording artist and humanitarian Juanes will be this year?s recipient of the Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award, to be presented at theHispanic Radio Conference in Dallas next month. This award honors Juanes not only for his long and successful music career, but for his social and humanitarian activism.

Juanes has been active in social issues throughout his career, and was honored by Sir Paul McCartney?s Adopt-a-Minefield organization for his work raising awareness of the problem of land mines left over from conflicts around the world, including in his native Colombia. He?s also been presented with France?s L?Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his social activism.
As an artist, Juanes has been called ?one of the biggest rock stars in the world? by Rolling Stone and ?the most important figure in Latin music in the last decade? by the Los Angeles Times. He?s won two Grammys and an amazing 19 Latin Grammys, and his albums have sold more than 16 million copies. Juanes is also one of the leading voice in Spanish-language social media, with millions of followers on Twitter and Facebook. His latest album, Loco de Amor, was released in September 2014 and debuted at number one on Billboard?s Latin Pop Albums chart ? and topped iTunes sales in a dozen countries.
